Voting Question: Ford Contour 1998 Power Window Problems?
I'm driving a 1998 Ford Contour, and the back windows have stopped working. I've checked the child lock, and it's off, but they won't go down from the door switches or the drivers master switches. I haven't pulled out the door panels yet, because I have no idea what to look for. We bought it from a garage that repaired it before selling it, but I don't know if they just did the engine or checked those too and came up empty. What I'm basically asking is if this is a common problem and if it is, what have you (or someone you've known) done to fix it? Or if you haven't seen this before, what are some possible reasons for this problem and what should I do to try and fix it. I'd like to fix it on my own, without having to take it to a mechanic, and as cheaply as possible (although I understand buying new parts is sometimes inevitable) Thanks :) moreVoting Question: How To Repair Central Locking? (Ford Mk3 Fiesta)?
I've got a 1992 Ford Fiesta Mk3 XR2i (3 door). The central locking is playing up, it will automatically open/close/open/close, it's just gone crazy! At current i've got the central locking cable in the doors unplugged but i really want to fix it. I know it's a common fault with Fords/Fiesta's but haven't got a clue how to fix it or what part to check. Any advice would be great! Thank you ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ P.s Please no comments saying "go to dealers, garage, e.t.c.." I'm looking at an older home that needs A LOT of little tiny things. Before we get the assessment done, our seller did agree to $200 in maintenance, but no more - so, I need to know what of these little things we need to get him to do before we get the assessment. I know it will cost a lot more than $200, and we'll need to repair some things afterwords to qualify, I'm sure, but what of the following (and I'm not even going to list everything) should we do before we order the appraisal? 1. Tree branches resting on service wires. 2. needs gutters 3. decayed wood on windows/ door trim - needs protective finish - these are older, and there are not that many spots that are bad, just a few here and there. 4. foundation - cracks along mortar joints 5. Chimney - cracked cap. Deteriorated bricks/ mortar, loose/ missing bricks, needs cap and screen on top - fireplace missing damper door. 6. garage - decayed and deteriorated sill plate (only one wall, only small area) 7. Garage Electrical - connections not made in junction box, lacks ground, altered wiring 8. Basement Electrical - disconnected wires not removed 9. Main Electrical - open knockouts on service panel, lack separation of grounds/ neutrals, disconnected wiring/ outlets not removed, lacks ground in 3 prong outlet at beam. 10. Plumbing water leak at service entry - copper and galvanized piping are touching, open waste lines 11. Kitchen - recommended GFCI outlets 12. Bathroom - GFCI didn't trip, sink has s-trap 13. Bedroom doors - only half stained Those are the bigger things - like I said there are a lot of tiny things wrong, but that's going to happen in my price range. The reason I am asking is because we want to get into this house - we will do almost every single one of these repairs as soon as our stimulus money comes in - but that won't be until after the sale is finalized, and we'd like to work towards that first, and wasting $200 on something major that the FHA doesn't care about is not a good idea in our circumstances! If you are knowledgeable about these things, just listing the numbers of the most important thing the assessor will look at would be very helpful. Thank you. the foundation isn't bad - it's minor, easy repair that just takes time - the floors and heater are practically new, nothing wrong with them at all. moreVoting Question: What do you think of my story so far?
I love writing stories, I've written lots, however this is the first time I've written anything like this, so please tell me what you think.... I’ve seen it all. You might think your life is filled with nothing but madness, but most likely you haven’t even seen or been in half the things even close to what I’ve been in. I’m sure your life’s no trip in the park, but trust me, some would say by now if they where ever in my shoes if just for a day, they would of committed suicide. Crazy I thought they where, but then when I really thought about it, I don’t live the greatest life. I was alive during our 4th Great Depression, which like all Great Depressions, was caused by the stupidity of the people, and the president, which I guess was also the fault of the people, well those who voted for him. I even lived through the death of both my parents, not of old age, not of disease like most people I knew, but a shot right through there head, I just barley sat up in pain because of my bleeding arm, and almost gone leg after being dragged out of a burning foster home, and watched my little sister, already dead, be carried out by a fireman. And I seem to have been one of the only ones who actually listened to the elderly crowd when the plaque came; well plague is what they called it. I know very well what it really was though. But that’s all in good time. Well now that I’ve told you all the little bits in pieces, you’re probably really wanting to hear the hole story, well I’d have to say from deep thought, it all started when I was, 11 years old. It was 2081 I was 11 years old, the president was Lance Edward, and yes this was the time the 4th Great Depression was going on. My parents where having some money troubles, and the store they owned right underneath the apartment we lived in was really going down. They sold baked goods, and other things, like nick knacks, little gadgets me and my dad had built, my dad also had a repair shop in the garage out back. Well we could just barley pay for all the ingredients for my mom to bake anything, my dads tools where getting old and not working like they used too, and because of this, business got slower, which caused my dad too do what most people where doing in this kind of time. Going to someone and asking for some money to possibly help us. However the people in our town that you could borrow money from weren’t the nicest people. Cruel people actually if you didn’t pay them a certain amount back after certain time, they would come for you. And well my dad couldn’t pay any of it back once it came to his time for paying back, and they did come for him, him and my mom. I remember that day as clear as I can remember every word I’m telling you now. It was a cold windy October day. Clouds covered the sky; there was no inch of sky showing. Me and my dad where working out back in the garage on someone’s robot that was supposed to be able to clean windows and make it spotless, it’s not that it didn’t work, which was what the man who owned it insisted, it was just it left a few streaks on the window and needed a little fixing up and some rust that needed to go. My little sister and mom where inside in the kitchen baking all sorts of things for the shop. Cookies, cakes, pastries, fudge, you name it, and they made it. We where all working hard when there was a knock at the door so loud that someone across the world could of heard it, and seconds after it, assuming my mom had answered the door, there was a yell from my mom telling me him to come inside. My dad went inside and after a minute from just waiting there I saw my sister in the back upstairs window, motioning me to come up there she looked scared as a cat that almost got ran over by a car. I ran to the door and snuck through the back door, just incase my dad was talking to someone important. I snuck up the back steps and saw my sister looking down the stairwell and trying to see my mom and dad, something told me she knew what was going on. “What do you think your doing?” I whispered. “Shhh” she replied then motioned me too look down the stairwell as well. When I looked down I saw a tall skinny man wearing a business suit, with two even taller, and way buffer guys standing behind him wearing business looking suits as well. He watched as my mom and dad sat down on two barstools. He had an angry look on his face, then he began to speak with a deep voice, which was also very angry. “Where’s my money Florence?” The man said. “I-I have some of it, I just need a little bit more and I’ll be able to pay you” my dad stuttered. “Well you don’t have a little bit, I want all the money now, or else you, and your wife, are going to be saying your last words” the man said now angrier then before. “We just need one, more week, maybe less, and we can give it to you” my mom butted in. The man turned on the heel of his shoe and faced my mother. “Just one week huh….” There was a long pause. “I think, I’m defiantly not Please excuse my somewhat horrible grammar ha, ha Once again b/c of some people who obviously can't read that well, Please excuse my horrible grammar Also, it's supposed to be long, I'm not even finished with it, so it's going to get a lot longer. moreVoting Question: how much does a mercedes bumper usually cost?

Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken Mc Nuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. "We don't have half dozen nuggets," said the teenager at the counter. "You don't?" I replied. "We only have six, nine, or twelve," was the reply. "So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?" "That's right." So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets. I was checking out at the local Wal-Mart with just a few items and the lady behind me put her things on the belt close to mine. I picked up one of those "dividers" that they keep by the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn't get mixed. After the girl had scanned all of my items, she picked up the "divider," looking it all over for the bar code so she could scan it. Not finding the bar code she said to me, "Do you know how much this is?" I said to her "I've changed my mind, I don't think I'll buy that today." She said OK,"and I paid her for the things and left. She had no clue to what had just happened. A lady at work was seen putting a credit card into her floppy drive and pulling it out very quickly. When I inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the Internet and they kept asking for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM "thingy." I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. "Do you need some help?" I asked. She replied, "I knew I should have replaced the battery to this remote door unlocker. Now I can't get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenience store) would have a battery to fit this?" "Hmmm, I dunno. Do you have an alarm, too?" I asked. "No, just this remote thingy," she answered, handing it and the car keys to me. As I took the key and manually unlocked the door, I replied, "Why don't you drive over there and check about the batteries. It's a long walk." Several years ago, we had an Intern who was none too swift. One day she was typing and turned to a secretary and said, "I'm almost out of typing paper. What do I do?" "Just use copier machine paper," the secretary told her. With that, the intern took her last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded to make five "blank" copies. I was in a car dealership a while ago, when a large motor home was towed into the garage. The front of the vehicle was in dire need of repair and the whole thing generally looked like an extra in "Twister." I asked the manager what had happened. He told me that the driver had set the "Cruise Control" and then went in the back to make a tuna sandwich. My neighbor works in the operations department in the central office of a large bank. Employees in the field call him when they have problems with their computers. One night he got a call from a woman in one of the branch banks who had this question: "I've got smoke coming from the back of my terminal. Do you guys have a fire downtown?" Police in Radnor, Pa., interrogated a suspect by placing a metal colander on his head and connecting it with wires to a photocopy machine. The message "He's lying" was placed in the copier, and police pressed the copy button each time they thought the suspect wasn't telling the truth. Believing the "lie detector" was working, the suspect confessed. Easybuild Plc built Swallow Close in the early 1960s. Your client Peter Harvey bought 22 Swallow Close as a new house from Easybuild in 1962 and he has lived there ever since. In his purchase deed he covenanted with Easybuild (a) not to use the property for the purposes of any trade, profession or business (b) to maintain the boundary fences marked with a “T” on the plan attached to the purchase deed in good repair and condition and (c) to extract covenants to the same effect from any subsequent owner of the property. The boundary that he is responsible for, according to the “T” mark on the plan, is the boundary between numbers 20 and 22 Swallow Close. He assumed at the time that everyone who bought one of the houses would give the same covenants and that his neighbours at number 24 would be responsible for the boundary between their properties. Peter believes that Easybuild went into liquidation in 1980 and he does not know who acquired the benefit of the covenants previously given to Easybuild. Peter remembers that when he first moved into 22 Swallow Close a Mrs Dawkins was already living in 24 Swallow Close, next door to him. She lived there until she died in 1985. After her death, the house was empty until 1988, when David Jackson moved in. Peter has got on well with Mr Jackson until recently, when Mr Jackson decided to allow his son to run his painting and decorating business from the house. Now the garage has become a workshop, there are vans constantly parked on the driveway and rubbish is piling up on the front lawn. On top of that the shared boundary fence has fallen over and is smashed in parts. Your own enquiries have disclosed that Swallow Close is in an area where registration of title to land did not become compulsory until 1990. Peter would like to know: (i)whether and how he can stop Mr Jackson’s son from operating his business from 24 Swallow Close; and (ii)what he can do about the broken boundary fencing. moreVoting Question: Landlord entering premises without 12 hour notice?
My husband and I rent a single-family home in FL. One Sat. morning we decided to turn our phones off and sleep in. About 10:15 I jumped in the shower, getting ready to go grocery shopping, however, did not check my phone. After getting out of the shower, I heard my dogs barking and going crazy, so I came out into the kitchen area to see what they were barking at and found my landlord on the floor fixing some repairs which we had been waiting to be repaired for three months. He turned around to find me stark-naked. I said "Oh My God", and ran to get a towel. I proceeded to wake up my husband, who came out and asked what was going on. Our landlord said he called, however, we did not get the message and he had told us he would be there the day before, never mentioning anything about coming on a Saturday. My husband came back into the bedroom to find me crying hysterically, went back into the kitchen and our landlord said, "should I leave", which my husband replied, "yes, I think it would be best if you left now". My husband never raised his voice, however, I was humiliated. What recourse, if any, do we have? We listened to the voicemails and the first one at 9:30 said to please call him because he wanted to do the work that day, then the second one said he was at our house, couldn't get in because the hotel lock was on the door and if he didn't hear back from me in a few minutes, he would call it a day. He found a way into the house somehow through the garage. What can we do??? Thank you. moreResolved Question: How would you recommend paying for glass repair service that is not done in a timely manner, read on?
Had a window on my van needing replacement, just cracked, another window stopped working with the track and motor, and is now inside the door panel just needing a new motor/regulator, and another window that just shattered on its own, no one was even touching the van and just shattered. So I called around to get the best prices, and got price matched with the company I am getting work from, meanwhile, they tell me that I was scheduled for 6:15pm, told 8:00am for the next day, no one showed, waited for a good hour before calling them. They said oh we had you on for 6:15pm yesterday, no one came then either, I was here. I told them I was told 8. Ok hold on let me check the status of your service, tick tok, comes back and tells me, okay we will have someone there first thing in the am. 8 o'clock they said. Again no one showed, called in and they say I was on schedule for 1:00pm. Okay, so on through the day, no one got her until 1:53 to be exact, sorry, I'm late but you can come out now, I'm by your vehicle. Okay, so I came down, they did not have the right glass for my side cargo door, fact they did not even have the not private glass to put on, they replaced the cracked windshield, and left the two other holes. I stay in an apartment where people are shady, one year there were over 20 cars broken into, so I have cameras on my car. It is now raining, so I pulled in one of the garages that are opened, and had okayed it with the landlord, explaining my situation. Now they said they will be here today between 8-12, guy showed up at 8:00. first timely guy in the company, couldn't wait a half hour for me to come out, I was asleep, my phone was dead, and had woken up later then expected, I was up the night before all night due to not wanting my stuff to get stolen, work stuff/system.and more, sure enough had to call the police on two people who were obviously not where they belonged. One dude even left and came back. Saw him on the north end of the garages I was parked in, but that garage was not able to be closed, like the night after was able to lock it up. Anyways, it is now going on noon and still no call back from the guy who say he would be calling back right away, that was almost two hours ago, and now just got a call, saying they will be here between 1 and 3, so everything just keeps getting punched back, I'm waiting longer then they are willing to wait for my job to be serviced and just don't feel that this is all in error. I don't feel what I am being quoted is right, what would you do? How would you fight this? And is there a way to fight this? Is there any legal action I can take to say no I don't agree on the price after the work is done, to bill me, or anything. Honestly, what can be done in this situation to get that price dropped from what it is to a lower payment. Either way, I am broke and taking time away from work to get this taken care of, my job requires me to drive around and canvas homes, and go door to door, for another service, beyond that, I don't know what I can do, normally I would just pay for it and be mad that I did. I don't want to do that this time, so what action can be taken legally, to get what I feel in the price that should be considerably reduced. I'm mad. I wish I would have gone with the other guy who quoted the price that I was supposedly matching with. He honestly deserved the job more then this place. Any advice would be good. Besides slide remarks of just pay it and quit being rediculous or whatever you may think. This is just shoty service. moreVoting Question: Overhead(Legacy)---Genie garage door?
The torsion springs were replaced today by the repair men and when we pushed either button(remote or wall mount), the garage slightly opened. However, after he replaced the springs, the repair man was not able to get the motor to lift the door. He said that we had to replace the motor. I'm wondering if anything happened to the settings of the motor or something after he replaced the springs. Is there a way to reset the motor. If we press the wall mount or the little remote we hear nothing but a red light lights up on the back of the motor. We do not have a keypad outside of the garage, only the wall mount and the two remotes. Any ideas on what happened or how to reset it??!?!?!?!? the door can be raised by hand. But the motor is not working. When we press either the remote or the wall mount, a red light blinks on the back of the motor mount. But clicks, no movement, no nothing!! help!!!! moreResolved Question: Tenant Getting Angry?
I am on the rental property doing repairs on the outside (garage door) and tenant said that I didn't have the right to be on the property without telling her first. She left me a voice mail because I left her a note on her door telling her to discard the auto paint, as it looked like there was someone working on cars in there. I will be back on the property because they put the wrong door on there. I do not feel it necessary to tell her I will be on my own property to make outside repairs. How do you handle this situation? When by a duplex unit of mine to inspect the new garage door and I found that tenant is using the garage for auto repairs it looks like. There is auto paint on the cement & empty auto paint cans on the floor and also paint on the cement floors in the garage. Also a sander and some sand paper laying on the floor. I just paid over $100 to have the garage painted and holes filled just a couple weeks ago and now there are marks on the walls from these big tires leaning on them & had a new garage door put on to make it look much nicer which was $600. What is it I need to do in this situation? moreResolved Question: My landlord is being unreasonable?
I moved out of a house I was renting on 17 May 2009. My landlord and I walked through the house and informed us that we didn't have to pay for anything other than for the garage door opener that my husband lost and to repair a small tare in the kitchen floor that was our fault. We were ok with paying out for the damages we did to the house but now he's saying he will have to replace the floor. The reason he has to get the floor replaced is because it looked like crap from the beginning. How much can he charge us for a small tare on the floor and can he charge us for replacing all of it? The front door was damaged by a windstorm that we had and he wants to charge us for fixing that too. Also, our lease READS that our security deposit should be given back to us within 10 days after we left but it has been almost a month. Now he is charging us for things that were not mentioned at the time. If our lease says we will get our deposit back in 10 days can the landlord choose to give it back in 30 days? I'm very angry because when I spoke to him he got very defensive and started saying that we should have been charged for other things that I know we shouldn't have. The entire house was disgusting when we moved in and when we moved out we made sure we cleaned it. The kitchen floor looked terrible even after we cleaned it so I feel we should only get charged for the small tare we did. My garage was recently broken into and burglarized. The vandals broke the garage door and door track. They destroyed the garage door opener but were unable to remove it. they removed partial aluminum siding from the back of the garage, and broke a few windows. Also, damaged the aluminum siding on the front of the garage, but it was not removed. Now the insurance company is paying a contractor to repair the garage door, garage door track, garage door opener and replace all the aluminum siding on the garage. But, the insurance company is also paying the contractor to remove the remaining aluminum siding and the rest of the damaged items. MY Question: Can I remove all of the siding, scrap, ect myself? I have a truck, and it would be no problem for me to do this myself. I don't want to pay the contractor any more than I have to, especially if I can do it myself. And If I remove the scrap, they can't and shouldn't charge me for it, should they? it should be removed from my bill right? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated! There is a cute little sturdy cinder block house for sale (in a super great neighborhood) for a mere $29,000. I know there MUSt be "something" wrong with it. But what?! We've looked all around, inside and outside. It looks great, except for the terrible awful decorating scheme (turquoise and yellow kitchen), big sky blue living room, one pink bedroom, and another room (no door) that looks like a man's smoking room, completely mismatched from the 1950s theme with a woody cabin feel to it. The realtor is calling this a second bedroom! ANYWay, I can see that a tree limb has actually fallen and ripped out the electric supply (at one time) it is currently held together by black electrical tape! YIKES! There is a brand new hot water heater (not completely hooked up yet? or is it?), a forced air heater that was serviced in '05 (but does it work?), new plastic pipes under the sink, (but was it EVER "winterized"???) I do not see tape that indicates it was winterized. No signs or anything. WHat would it cost to replace ALL the electrical wiring? Do I NEED to do that? Who I call? How much does this cost? Can grandpa do it? and have it approved by a technician? How about the plumbing? How much does it cost to replace the plumbing? maxium? and minimum costs??? Please , please give me some numbers that I can work with! I do NOT know what to do! This is a very cute house! It says it is 1400 sq ft, but I think that includes the big oversized attached one and a hlf car garage area. the living room is pretty decently "big", tiny bathroom, tiny kitchen, tiny dining area/hallway, NO laundry room! WHY did they have the laundry next to the kitchen, by the door? How much does it cost to move that to the garage? where it BELONGS? How much does it cost to pipe heat into the garage (so the laundry water pipes do not freeze)? Could I put up a silly thin dry wall? make a little corner room/hallway in my garage? Can I turn the garage into a real bedroom? The den (you can not see the floor plan...) I sorta wish to keep extra room as a den/computer/TV/rec room. I'd like a bedroom for sleeping. I'd like the living room for visiting with visitors, not when... people walk in and the attention is draw n to that big black box, that awful silly stupid TV. what happened to the OLD days? of communication? and FAMILY? We have not turned the TV on in almost a year. (We take the summers off, we do watch some tv in the fall and winter.) ANyway, can you please help me? May I offer a mere $9,000? I have $10,000 more to fix the place up. I need hard flooring (vinyl? or some super nice plank wooden floors? ceramic tile? stone?) It has nasty very used old shag carpet currently. I had some trouble getting a "conventional" loan? I did get a regular ordinary loan that requires FHA approval up to $65,000 , but I'm not sure we are comfortable with that price, payments and jobs for the next 30 yrs? (what if I am fired? or laid off? I can't make the payments?) What am I getting myself into? Is this house a disaster? It's looks super nice and perfect outside and inside. The problems are invisible. (Plumbing? elect?) The realtor said "it has problems. It is priced accordingly." He would not give further details. He (good adivce, yes) says to have it inspected. "I am not a contractor"he says. He even wanted to meet with me again. "why?" I asked. he smoothly said "to make an offer.." Which I am not about to do, until I know what kind of repairs are required! PS. slab, no basement! (75% of all basements that I have seen have moisture or standing water in them! UGH), City sewer, city water. ugh. I hate the CITY. but it gives the illusion of country living anyway. lots of trees and such. moreResolved Question: is a bedroom a bedroom without a door?
we just had an inspection done on a house we're looking at, and we're told we can only ask the seller to repair "defects" which totaly irritates me. The garage is consisting of rotting wood and peeling paint(is still the original garage from 1941), but since it's still standing & functional, we can't "require" them to fix it. The air conditioner is 23 yrs old (8 yrs past normal life expectency), & the hot water heater is 14 years old as well, but since they are still working we can't requst them to fix it. Actually we can, but we can't walk away if they don't since they aren't actual "defects". Even though they obviously have to all be replaced asap. And, something we overlooked on our initial walk through - the upstairs "bedroom" (cape cod style) doesn't actually have a door on it - I guess a room doesnt actually have to have a *door* to be called a bedroom - yet is not a defect either.... We had requested the right to an inspection & if they don't fix any defects we can walk away.... but can we request them to still repair items that are still functioning (but at the end of their life or rotting away)? Our realtor seems to want to brush any problems under the rug and we were stupid enough to use his inspector who lives about 6 houses down the road from this house - everything was 'typical for this neighborhood' including the water rings around the wall in the basement! I currently drive a 140 Mercedes A-Class. In late December, I purchased a 2007 Chevy Tahoe with 38K miles from a reputable dealer that was referred to me. I have been wanting a Tahoe for several years and the dealer gave me a fairly good price @ $21,900. However, I owed about 2500 on my trade so it was tacked to the end of my vehicle. Well, I've taken good care of the vehicle in the few months I've had it, but have begun noticing several things wrong. I didn't wash the vehicle for about a month a half after purchasing it because I kept garaged at home and at work, but kept it wiped down. After our first trip outta town, I took it to have it detailed and noticed I had a lot of bug damage on the front bumber. Somehow the dealer managed to cover this so I wouldn't notice, and when I had it detailed it was obvious that this damage had been there awhile. I complained to the dealer who told me he would make an appt with the body shop and have them fix the damage. I call and he's always busy, or has to check back with the body shop, or whatever, but never returns my calls. I know this is an expensive repair and he is avoiding me now. Today I had the vehicle detailed again and after I get it home, I notice there's damage to the back bumber towards the bottom. It looks there was some touch up paint applied sloppily, but there are definite cracks towards the bottom of the bumber where something hit it. On top of all this the brakes squeal loudly whenever I go in reverse and the rear makes an uneasy noise going over speed bumps. I purchased the extended 3 yr warranty, so I immediately take it to the dealer. They keep it all day, and then tell me they couldn't find anything wrong and didn't hear any of the noises I was referring to?? I hear the brakes EVERY morning as I pull out of my garage. So my question is....What can I do now? I have good credit and even told the dealer that I would be open to trading it back in if they could put me in another Tahoe for around the same note. Even though they had several '09 models listed with 0% interest, when we did the paperwork, they wanted to give me a 6.5% interest and boost my notes up by $200 a month! My issue is I've only had this thing a few months and 6 years to pay for it. I don't wanna have a vehicle with issues right out the door. Is it possible for me to trade it back in for another with close to the same note? Or how can I get the dealer to deal with these issues? Or should I just go to another dealer looking to trade? Any info would be great! I am NOT paying way too much. When I took back to look at trading it back in, they were going to give me 23,500 for it. I paid 21,900! Blue book it!! And I don't expect perfect vehicle, I've always driven used vehicles, but I don't expect to that many issues before my first payment. And yes, I just made my first payment. And I haven't waited 3 months to bring these issues to them. I've been back and forth with them since the first week. I know that they're not going to fix the cosmetic issues, so I was trying to find out if I should pursue trading it back in?? moreResolved Question: Is there anyone in Essex, who knows how to REPAIR OR REPLACE THE zapper for a radio controlled garage door?

- that should have been removed before I entered the car wash. What happened was the machine stopped midway through the wash, I was trapped inside the car by the two flanking washer rollers, I beeped my horn to get attention and help but to no avail, so I decided to just drive the car out, I explained what happened to the manager and he said that they were having terrible trouble with the machine and that a woman had been trapped by the same machine a couple of days earlier. He came out and re booted the machine and I reversed the car in to get it washed again, however I soon noticed that the car was letting in water at the top of one of the rear doors, and realised then that the top washer roller that was above the roof of the car and out of my sight must have clipped the rear of the roof rack when I exited and pressed it down into the car roof, denting it, this is turn then compromised the top of the rear door seal and so allowing the water to seep in. The defence solicitors are claiming that as there was signage stating that car 'accessories' must be removed before entering the wash, and that my roof rack was an 'accessory' and should have been removed beforehand - but the roof rack isn't just something you can whip off and whip back on again, it is a bolted-on integral part of my car just as the tow bar is. They also stated that the machine was subsequently checked and found to be in working order and required no repairs, this conflicts with the earlier statement from the manager of the garage who told me it was giving them a lot of trouble lately and that at least one customer had already been trapped in it. I have used this car wash several times in the past and several times since with no problems whatsoever. Note too that the garage manager cleared me to re-enter the wash with my roof rack still in place. Please advise me as to my rights and whether I should pursue my claim for damages against them. I forgot to mention also that the manager refused me access to the most recent maintenance and repair log records regarding this particular car-wash. Han - I've just reported you for abuse. Equally Cary S - this would probably go more against the manager don't you think? Erich M - I've just reported you for abuse too, why can't you smug smart alecs just be civil or don't answer at all. I posted this question on behalf of a friend by the way, this didn't happen to me personally. Fred F - you sound like such a smug smart alec yourself, you'd swear you were there yourself such is your self delusory ego mania - and I reported 'abuse' of the blog not of myself you supercilious know-it-all, now that's YOUR big fault ;) I wrote this in the first person for convenience folks, just found it easier to write it that way, thanks for those who have posted civil non-smart ass comments so far and for not compromising the common civility we expect from one another when seeking advice. ;) I've just been told by my pal that the car wash stopped mid way through the wash because of a software malfunction with the machine itself and not because of the roof rack, hence the lady being trapped in it a couple of days before and the ongoing trouble that was being experienced by it as stated by the manager. They obviously don't like roof racks because they may fray or sever the nylon cleaning fibres and not because they can cause the machine to malfunction - as is evidenced by the years of incident free usage by my pal of roof rack car washes before this incident and indeed in the months since. moreVoting Question: For automatic garagae door opener, should we replace stripped Gear or get brand new opener?

“Eric!” a shout came ringing out, and I started shuffling towards my boss, on the other side of the isle of the auto repair shop I worked at. As I got closer, I saw he wasn’t going to give me a raise, he looked more furious than I had ever seen him. “Yes, sir, what is it?” I replied, pondering why he was this angry. “You remember a customer that came in with the black Ford pickup truck?” he paused a moment, expecting me to answer. After a second he continued, “State Farm just called, representing that same customer, whose brakes you were supposed to fix, by the way, expecting money because his brakes gave out at an intersection!” Ouch. This was big. I did fix a guy’s black pickup trucks brakes a while ago, or so I thought. I would definitely be fired for this one, and it would be near impossible to find another job. My head started to pound, and I felt like the world was collapsing in. “You’re fired, Eric.” I walked out of the open garage door of the shop and started to think. Without a job, I had no income, and without income, I had no house, no food, no anything. I had no way out. I kept walking, thinking until I came across something; another auto shop, this one called Pro Parts. I casually strolled in, looking around. I quickly realized that this shop was nothing like my old one. It was filled with body parts, under lights, rims, and things like that. This place didn’t repair cars, it customized them. I looked for the owner, and after a second I noticed someone in a back room, working on a car. I hit the service bell, and he rolled out from under the car and headed towards me. “What do you wish to buy today?” he inquired, looking for something in my hands. “Are you hiring right now?” I asked, hoping to get another job fast as I could. “No, I’m not. Sorry about that, but I don’t need help. Do you want to buy anything?” “Not right now,” I stated, disappointment heavy in my voice. Trying to make me happier, the guy said, “Did you hear about the race at Resco yet?” “No,” I said. “What’s Resco?” “It’s a raceway. I’m surprised you never heard of it. They’re having a tourney soon, in two days. The entry fee is fifty dollars, but the winner gets fifty grand and a new car, too.” I drifted into a daydream. I could do a lot with fifty grand, all right. However, I had no car. I lived in Chicago, right next to my job, and had no need for one. “Bye, then,” I said, strolling out the door, and once again onto the sidewalk, happier than when I came in. I needed to win that race, and I had a plan. I had good credit, so I would just loan money for a car, about thirty thousand, and when I won, I could just give thirty thousand back, and have twenty to spend as I please. Five hours and a cramped hand later, after filling out tons of paperwork, I had thirty thousand in my account now, to spend as I please. The next day, my goal still clear in my mind, I walked to the first dealership, this one for used cars. I looked around, and after making five rounds around the entire parking lot full of cars, I walked inside, where they kept their “showy” cars. And that is where I saw it, the car I was going to get. A used 2005 Mustang GT from Ford. A nearby dealer must have seen my look of awe, because he strolled over and asked, “Would you like to buy that, sir? Twenty five thousand dollars, plus a small fee.” I had a quick wave of doubt, how this was laying all my cards down, taking a risk that could send my life to the fast track, or destroy everything. However, this quickly passed, and then, I took the jump. “I’ll take it, right now if I can,” I mumbled, sounding like an awestruck child on Christmas. “Yes, I’ll get it right away!” The dealer was overjoyed that he made a sale, and he probably earned commission, so I could see why. I watched them bring it to the garage, where I hopped in, and my heart was racing, beating faster than I could ever remember. The car smelled of leather, and the overall feeling was phenomenal. I would have gone home and celebrated, but I had an idea for that last five thousand. Five minutes later, after having the best drive of my life, I was in front of the same place I had been before, called Race, Rims, and More. As I was walking up to it, I saw the same guy I had talked with before. I walked inside. “You’re back again, huh?” the owner seemed happy to see me. “I’m still not hiring, if that’s what you’re wondering. By the way, call me Norman.” I wasn’t really listening. I was obsessed with the things around me now, now that I had a car. I had five grand in my pocket, and I was going to spend it right, at least in my view. “What would you think I would need to enter the race, I mean, if I want to win.” I said, completely off topic, but important. “Oh, you’re entering, are you? What are you using in the race?” Norman was scanning the parking lot, trying to find my car. “That green Mustang, that’s mine. All I seem to find on the internet are sites selling parts for individual home repair. Any help would be very much appreciated. moreResolved Question: How can I remove honeysuckle that is driving bees crazy?
I am about to buy my first home. The previous owner put a lot into landscaping including over a dozen honeysuckle bushes all around the house. Now that they are starting to bloom, the bees have gone crazy! There are over a hundred bees all around the house (so many you can actually hear their hum from several feet away.) The house has been vacant for some time so the bushes are overgrown. Five of the bushes flank the front entrance and there are so many bees we can't safely get into the front door or open the garage. Although they smell wonderful, we need to uproot the bushes. We can't get close enough to them as there are at least 50 bees per bush (we can't get an exact count b/c we don't dare get close enough.) Can anyone offer advice on how to do this without an angry horde of bees coming after us? We close next week but I am not set to move in for at least 3 weeks due to other repairs needed. We have a small window of time but right now can't move in b/c we can't get to the doors! HELP! My worry right now is there are multiple types of bees, I'm no bee expert but what looks like bumble bees never even notice us, they are going crazy on the bushes, but there two others (particularly one really large red and yellow one) and another yellowish looking one (NOT a yellow jacket); that seem to get angry when we get close, we haven't been able to get into the house b/c the bushes overgrew to block the entrance, we noticed by standing in the vicinity, we start to smell like the honeysuckle and so the bees are getting attracted to us, we need to get in and repair workers also, help! moreResolved Question: How do I repair/realign a garage door safety switch?
The two sensors are mounted on the track about 6 inches from the floor. The light on the left sensor is green and the light on the right is yellow. I think that these have to be perfectly aligned and thus both green (?) but are there any tips on how to do that? Leave the green alone and just move the other around until that shows green also? If so will it flicker to green immediately or does it take time to register that it is in alignment? Any tips or tricks? moreResolved Question: my landlord charged my over 4000 dollars for carpet, paint, keys etc. I paid a1800 deposit. can they do this?

Whether we use the remote that's in the car, or the button by the door to close the garage door it will close, hit the bottom then like 5-10 seconds later reopen. Then we have to hit it to stop the door, then hit the button to make it go back down, sometimes on the second time it will stay shut, but not always, it's taken as many as about 5-6 times one day to get it to shut. It doesn't do this every single time we use the garage door, but most times. This just started about a month ago. is there anything that can be done about it. The garage door was replaced in 2006, and the electrical parts were inspected then. Oh, and if this isn't something that can be done by us, but by calling a garage door tech. how much will a repair like this run? moreResolved Question: Do I have a case against my landlord?
I am currently renting an apartment in Ohio and I have been having some problems with my landlord. In my lease aside from my apartment I have also rented a spot in the garage to park my car. The garage has a door but it does not work and I was not notified beforehand. Anyone can walk off the street directly into the garage with no problem. My car has been broken into (via the windows) three times in the past five months. There is a hole under my sink in the kitchen that hasn't been repaired. They never put working smoke alarms in the apartment. The doors to the building do not always lock and there are cockroaches. I have sent a certified letter to the landlord listing these problems and never got a response. Am I able to end my lease or request a month to month til I find another place? Can I sue my landlord for damage to my vehicle?. What can I do? moreResolved Question: scared about my insurance help!?
I am a new driver made a claim in november, our buildings garage door closed on my car, it went through isurance, their insurance paid my deductible. Now I just got a call from the insurance they are now trying to get the rest of the money from their insurance. Now they are claiming they have a video that shows there were 2 cars in front of me that i didnt swipe the car. I did swipe and i dont recall cars in front, they may of went in before me but werent going through when I arrived. I tried to call back the insurance but was closed today. Does this mean that even though the claim was paid and over months ago, that if they dont get the money back from the insurance and they claim my fault that my insurance will get raised? There was a report also from their security saying that the door was coming down after it went up after I called them. I thought it was over with. So I am freaking out now that if they think its my fault that they can raise it even though the damages was done and paid in December. THey didnt mention any of this to me but i am very worried. THe garge door was broken for 3 weeks and they just repaired it but there was another witness that 2 days before me, it went haywire again but with this "video" I dont know what happens now. thanks for your reply, yes i know insurance goes up often but in my situation what im worried about is, i thought the claim was over, car got fixed, but not that my insurance company is in litigation with the buildings insurance trying to recover the money that they paid, now they are claiming there is this video that showed 2 other cars entering before myself with is implying that i did not swipe the car and that the door closed on me because i was entering behind someone else. the sensor here doesnt wrk like that, people go out all the time after each other wihtout swiping but the sensor still knows if someone was there, to be honest i cant recall if i did swipe it and the left the door open 24 hours a day for 3 weeks prior as it was open but i told them i did swipe it and now it may screw me but my question was can they raise me after the fact, this was under comprehesive, i was sent a cxheck for the deductible i payed to the body shop but now if they claim its my fault... i said i told them i swiped the card but as this was months ago i really cant recall but i did not follow another car in, there could of been a car that when in shortly before me but there was none going in when i got there, and there is no damage to the garage door, just my car, i paid the 500 and they paid the other 800 and the buildings insurance gave me back the 500, i talked today to her and she said this will not change my insurance that they do not see it as my fault. i only talked to her briefly before i posted this as i was working, but today she told me there was the report from security saying that the door indeed was not working and they did see it come down right after it went up and she said about the video it was not clear what really showed but i figured like you that new evidence may change that but she said they dont see it as my fault so hope that doesnt change as she said, i was really upset last night so maybe wasent clear in my post plus have a bad flu, thanks moreVoting Question: Which updates/repairs would be worth making for a house being put up for sale?
My mother in law is planning to put her house up for sale this spring. Which of the following updates would be worth doing? All of these items are currently in good working condition Replace original windows with vinyl New kitchen countertops (the current ones are very 70's) Patch/replace crack in concrete driveway Replace original wood garage door w/ new vinyl door Replace all original interior doors w/ new 6-panel doors Both of the bathrooms were gutted and replaced in 2007, the roof is approximately 10 years old, the gas furnace was replaced in 2006, the hot water heater is not even 1 year old, and all of the flooring was replaced in 2007, so she has put a lot of money into the house within the past couple of years, and is wondering what else should be done to get the most out of her home. moreResolved Question: How to replace a garage door?

IDIOT SIGHTING: We had to have the garage door repaired. The Sears repairman told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a 'large' enough motor on the opener. I thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest one Sears made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower. He shook his head and said, 'Lady, you need a 1/4 horsepower.' I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4. He said, 'NO, it's not. Four is larger than two.' We haven't used Sears repair since. IDIOT SIGHTING My daughter and I went through the McDonald's take-out window and I gave the clerk a $5 bill. Our total was $4.25, so I also handed her a quarter. She said, 'you gave me too much money.' I said, 'Yes I know, but this way you can just give me a dollar bill back.' She sighed and went to get the manager who asked me to repeat my request. I did so, and he handed me back the quarter, and said "We're sorry but they could not do that kind of thing.' The clerk then proceeded to give me back $1 and 75 cents in change. IDIOT SIGHTING: The stoplight on the corner buzzes when it's safe to cross the street. I was crossing with an intellectually challenged coworker of mine. She asked if I knew what the buzzer was for. I explained that it signals blind people when the light is red. Appalled, she responded, 'What on earth are blind people doing driving?!' She was a probation officer in Wichita , KS IDIOT SIGHTING: At a good-bye luncheon for an old and dear coworker. She was leaving the company due to 'downsizing.' Our manager commented cheerfully, 'This is fun. We should do this more often.' Not another word was spoken. We all just looked at each other with that deer-in-the-headlights stare. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver ' s side door. Well, My husband and I are currently looking at a house we may possibly purchase for $59,000.00. (the house is appraised for 78,000.00 on the "tax district" website...dont know how accurate this is?) we live in Texas. The house is 1263 sq ft (add another 237 sq ft for garage and small patio) 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath attached garage However there are some pro's and of course con's...I guess i am just wanting some "outside" thoughts... Pros: Great side of town, Great school district, down the street from a park, nice size backyard, the price, the owner is moving out of state so the refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer, and 2 refrigerated AC's are staying in the house. New Roof, New PVC water pipes, steel siding, automatic garage door with opener, Hardwood floors, water heater only 3 years old, we will be paying around $200.00 less a month then what we pay now for a rent house... Cons: There is currently no central heat or air (we are plan to add this if we buy), will have to replace some windows, repair partial backyard fence, paneled walls, 2 of the bedrooms have already had the carpet lifted..so the have the wood floors we will have to lift the carpet in the living room, floor furnace, ...basically the house is a bit old and hasn't had any TLC in a while? So what do you think worth it??? I Know this is alot of info...i would greatly appreciate any kind of opinions? Thanks! moreResolved Question: is it possible to continuously repair Acura legends?

They'll be old at least 14 years old, but they'll always look nice. These Days. Its rare to find one under 100k miles. And how long will acura continue to manufacture compatible replacement parts for the legend? i fear one day that i will have 2 legends sitting in my garage, needing parts that are no longer manufactured or even found!
