2500 Express Van Questions and Answers
Voting Question: What could be causing a chevy express van to take almost 30 seconds to finally turn over?
I have an 01 chevy express 2500 work van. Recently replaced distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires, because Distributor cap blew up and would not start at all. They said they fixed the timing?? If I have recently had the van running it will crank after 2-4 seconds of turning over but if it sits more than 10 minutes or so, it will require me to hold the key in the cranking position for up to 30 seconds before it finally cranks. Once it does it starts out very slow and rough and sputters a little then it finally gets up to speed. The oil pressure Gauge gets low when this is happening and then corrects itself but usually runs around 20 (40 is the mid point of the Gauge range) which seems low. Once it finally starts I smell a warm/burning oil smell coming out of the ac vents. I have recently had the oil changed and the fuel system cleaned (these problems were happening before these maintenance items were completed) I have checked the oil and it is full and I did not notice any water on the dipstick. It was suggested that my radiator and transmission need flushing but as far as I understand vehicles these wouldn't keep it from starting. Lastly I thought it may be the fuel pump and it was suggested to me but I would think that if it was a fuel pump issue it would not start at all. I have a 96 chevy express 2500 with a 4.3L. When it rains the service engine light comes on and runs like crap. I changed the plugs wires and cap and rotor. Could something else be getting wet or moisture building up? It runs like this for a couple days. I took it to auto zone and they said there was to many codes and their machine couldnt read them. I have a Chevy 2500 conversion van. It is similar to a Chevy Express. The kayak cannot fit inside the van, so is there something I can buy that attaches to the outside? We have an extended cab pick up with an 8 foot bed, but my husband and I and our 4 toddlers with car seats will not fit inside it. Hey, my car wont start for some reason. if i let it sit for more then 2 hours it wont start. It takes maybe 30 times and drains the battery intill it starts. But once it starts it runs fine, i can shut it off and crank it right back up. I know fuel is comming up,spark plugs and wires are good, fuel injection is good. What else? Its a chevy express van 2500 1997 Im in NC id dosent go blew 50 its not a sensor or anything cause if i let the engine sit for 4 hours it cranks right back, up. Its only if i leave it for more then 8 hours or something. The van has had now 2 fuel pumps installed. The orignal one quit working. The first one I installed would work fine the just quit working. With a hit on the bottom of the fuel tank it would start up and run fine again. So though it had a flat sopt on the pump. Put a another new fuel pump in and it startted right up. drove about 10 miles and it started stalling. Would start up after a few trys and run fine for a while and then stall. In a 22 mile trip it stalled 4 times, then would restart everytime. now if I statr it in will stall just sitting in the drive. The plug on the pump was clean and not burned so was not replaced. I filed a bankruptcy in March 03 and purchased a 1999 Ford Windstar in October 03. I had never missed a payment. In January 04, I was 30days late on a payment, a representative called me regarding the payment and I expressed to her that I would make the payment the next day by Western Union. Later on that night someone called my phone stating that he was an agent and was there to collect my vehicle. I was in disbelief because I had just talked to someone less than two hours ago regarding the payment. The person proceeded to drag my front wheel drive vehicle from my parking spot to another end of my apartment complex I ran outside and he stated that I had to give him the keys and my vehicle was delinquent. Long story short when I called the next day to retrieve my vehicle the representative I spoke with told me that I had to pay $3000 plus pay 3 months worth of car insurance within 30days in order to get my van back. They auctioned the vehicle for $2500 and now I have a judgement The balance on the van was $9000 they auctioned it for $2500 and they added on charges which brought the balance to $7500. I recently looked at my credit report and the balance is now $15000. What can I do. At the time I didn't have the money for a lawyer but they did so many things wrong. They had to verify that I had full coverage insurance before I could get my van back and I had to wait 24 hours because they wanted proof from AAA. They got the proof then they requested that I pay $3000 because i was now a risk and also pay 3 months worth of full coverage car insurance. I am in Michigan and my car payment was only $320 per month. I was late 30days. I don't want them to begin garnishing me for $14000 for a vehicle that was sold for $2500 less than they wanted me to pay to get it back. What rights do I have here in the state of michigan does anyone know a good attorney to help me resolve this issue. I own a '02 chevy express 2500 cargo van and my mechanic replaced the leaking axle seals today and filled the diff. w/ synthetic fluid. As far as I knew the diff in this veh is filled for life with a synthetic fluid that may be different or have an additive that is not standard in standard synthetic gl or 75W90. I need a vehicle for work and can't choose! Here are my choices: 1. 1997 3500 Chevrolet Express Cargo Van: Might be a V6 or V8 -Maintained by in house mechanic every month -86,000 miles -Some dents, scratches, interior cosmetics need some work -$4,200 - The company is selling it because it's the only vehicle thats too small on the lot and too low for the loading dock. What I don't like about the 97 is the fact that its now 2007 (10 years), are these Vans ageless or am I being to picky. (ps. I ride a 95 s-10 with a 98 engine). And the auction ones might be lemons. Ok I know it was stupid but can anyone help me. I took off the serpentine belt with the new one in hand and ready to replace and the cell phone rang and thats where it ends for me I even bough a repair manual it was no help.
