Open Question: A fast shutter speed, medium format, digital SLR, telephotal lens photography camera?
Hey guys, i need help trying to find a FAST SHUTTER SPEED, MEDIUM FORMAT, DIGITAL SLR, AND TELEPHOTAL LENS photography camera. Do any of you know where i can find a camera with these qualities in them? moreResolved Question: Are these lenses good?
I'm planning to buy a dslr camera (Since I learned photography a year ago, I was just borrowing my uncle's Canon 1ds mk ii) and my uncle suggested I buy digital Medium Format instead of 35mm or crop-sensor bodies because of the quality and resolution. After researching, I think like Hasselblad better than Mamiya, since their quality looks better and the price is higher (often you get what you pay for) and I want a manual focus and mechanical one. So I'm planning to buy the 503cw and then a CFV 16 megpixel back. I don't want the phaseone p45 and the 39 mp cf hasselblad back since I want square format and I would rather buy some lenses with the money I would save. Now to the main question... I read about these ZV lenses from Zeiss. Theyre for the v series bodies and I think they are like the CF lenses but in a better luxurious casing. Just look! They look really nice compared to the black CF lenses. http://www.luminous-landscape.com/images64/zeiss-pma.jpg http://www.photographyblog.com/images/products/carl_zeiss_zv_classic_lenses_1.jpg Have any one of you tested these lenses? And yes, i know, they really look immaculate don't they and I admit I'm kinda biased towards those shiny metal barrels over image quality hahaha. Tell me what are your thoughts. Should I choose those over the CF lenses? BTW, they come in 50, 120, and 180 focal lengths. (I don't care about not having a normal lens (80mm) because I mainly shoot landscapes, architecture, food photography, and portraits and the 120 and 180 will cover my portrait needs. moreVoting Question: What is a "medium format" camera?
What is a "medium format" camera and how does it differ from 35mm cameras? moreResolved Question: How do i know what size lens i want to put on my medium format camera?
I just bought a medium format camera and i am new to this kind of thing. i need to know what type of lens i should use if i am interested in taking landscape photos. also, what kind of gizmos would be of use, and how much they cost. thankyou so much! moreResolved Question: Where to develop 120 medium format film in zurich or lugano?
im addicted to lomography, and have a holga camera. where should i print my pictures? moreResolved Question: What exactly is wrong with using film?
The amount of questions recently about photography have been concerning me... (I hope that this is not conceived as a rant, I am genuinely interested) It seems that the vast majority of people who decide to take up photography as a hobby/career go straight to digital and do not even think of using film. In fact many even insult film, saying that it is simply no good and that they are better off with digital. They seem interested in only blurry shots, with 'colour splash' or glitter or cartoon hearts adhered to them. From a commercial and professional point of view, digital has many advantages. Cost of developing and printing, the cost of film, ability to change ISO with a push of a button.. Yes, we all know that... But the cost of good quality film equipment is so cheap that ANYBODY who wants to SERIOUSLY learn about photography would be stupid to ignore it. Having learned so much from both formats I am glad to say that I still use film, in fact I seem to use it more than Digital these days. My question is this.... If you are not interested in using film... Why?. I am interested in hearing why people today seem to dismiss film. And as a quick note, I will include some photos I took last weekend.. the first roll of 120 B&W film that I had developed from my new purchase, my Yashica A medium format TLR. I had more fun using this camera than any digital camera I have ever used!. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3559/3595619999_2c47e86ed5_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3623/3595615599_b6c910db6c_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3624/3596421646_6ca753c361_b.jpg . Just to add.. DL> I am old enough to remember all those things you mentioned, yet still fairly young (I turned 30 last week). As well as collecting classic cameras, I also collect vinyl. My vinyl collection is one of my prize possessions. It shows you do not have to be too old to appreciate the quality things in life! ;o) +++ Chris> The third image was an accidental double exposure which turned out to be a lucky fluke!. I was thinking about cropping the other two but there is something about leaving the original square image... I shall think about it!. ++ Rusty> Thank you!.. You are exactly what I am looking for. Who says that you can't combine film with Photoshop?. how do you think I cropped the third image in my links?, how do you think those images I took on film got onto the internet?. It is incredibly easy to scan film, upload it to Photoshop and edit it just as you would any Digital image. This is something that I hope that the younger generation learns. +++ Gryphon> I have been into photography long enough to know what I am saying. I make a side living from my photography and do not class myself as somebody who 'Thinks they know what they are doing'. I may be only 30, but I have been doing this from a very early age. I have also seen these boards enough to see exactly what kind of questions are asked these days and the attitudes of the younger generation (14-22 years) towards film. Your other comments are very interesting, the fact that many printing companies today consider digital as a must is a sign of the times. +++ Before I go to bed (it is 2:30am here in the UK).. I will quickly add that the camera I used to take the shots for the links above (Yashica A) cost me £37 from eBay. When you compare it to the cost of todays digital cameras, and the fact that you are 100% involved with the outcome and process of the image (no Auto modes on this camera!). I wonder why more kids who are interested in photography as an art do not consider this. +++ moreResolved Question: What medium-format cameras are great?
I've heard great stuff about the Mamiya c330. What about Hasselblads? Can you tell me what the difference is between these and regular 35mms besides the two lenses? Do the films cost a lot? I would really love to start looking and shooting with these. moreResolved Question: Where can I buy cheap, 35mm vintage cameras? See details.?
I would like to get some fun toy cameras and also some legitimate 35mm. I have an SLR. I like the holga, but medium format film is too expensive. I was looking into the "Brick". I just want my images to have a vintage feel to them or a certain....feeling to it. I run on a tight budget and direct links would be appreciated. Any questions you have, please ask in your answer and I will reply via "extra details" moreResolved Question: What is a good, inexpensive medium format camera other than a Holga?
I've been shooting with my Canon Rebel EOS (film camera) for about two years now and own a Nikon D80. I'm feeling rather limited with the 35mm format after hundreds of frames, and am thinking of dabbling in the world of medium format photography beyond my the blurry, light-leaked limitations of my Holga. As Hasselblad is certainly not in my budget range, but I am open to the used camera market. I know a tiny bit about Mamiyas, Bronicas, and Rolleiflexes but would like to know more about these brands (and others) and their cameras. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I own a Holga and a Diana. I'd rather not deal with plastic cameras anymore (as much as I like them) moreResolved Question: Medium format camera systems- Advantages and disadvantages?

Ok sorry in advance for the long winded post. I have been messing with photography for a while now and last year I bought a holga for B&W. As it turns out I love it. For all the reasons most holga lovers do except for the light leaks and the structural crappiness. Now I want to upgrade. Not by much.I would like to keep most of the attributes that make the holga cool except for the light leaks and the constant vignetting(i do kind of like the vignetting thoughbut I would like to be able to control it). I want something 6x 6. I hate having to tape my camera all the time too. And I hate the cheapness of the film load and everything. Having to wedge cardboard under the film spools gets old fast. I guess what it boils down to is that I like the pictures I get but I want a better built camera for under say $150.00 . Should I go with 35mm? It is cheaper but I intend to buy a scanner and I already have a developing kit for 120 B&W. I was considering looking for a well built vintage camera but the sizes of a lot of them turn me off. I can get the arista films pretty cheap and develop them myself pretty cheap so now I am pumped about finding a decent medium format for B&W cheap. I am looking for camera ideas. I have a Yashica Elsctro 35 and if they made a medium format that was a simple to use as and built as solid and had just as many options but with not such a sharp lens and gave me that old school soft look I would buy 100 of them(i dont know why when you only need 1 but I would anyhow). How are the cheaper TLRs like the seagull? They are kinda too big for my taste but I would have to compromise I guess. I hear they are heavy too. Maybe one that comes with a kicking leather case with a strap for mobility. Any ideas? My sister is getting married in a few months so maybe I could use it for that too. moreResolved Question: What medium format camera do you use?

Hi! I'm an amateur photographer who has been shooting 35 for a few months now. I inherited a Nikon F3 with 4 primes, and wanted to find a medium format camera with an f-mount. I looked online for a MF nikon camera, but couldn't find any. Is there a lens adapter I can get to use my primes on a Mamiya or Pentax MF camera? moreResolved Question: Why don't more people just say 'ISO rating' instead of "film speed"?
I love taking landscape photos, and I prefer to use film. (I use 90 percent film...35mm and medium format). I just learned how to use manual exposure about 2 years ago, but I've been taking pictures since I was a little kid. One thing I never understood was the term "film speed." When I started learning about the ISO rating as a measurement of the light sensitivity of the film, that made a lot more sense to me. When I was a kid, I used to see the number labeled on a box of film, and people would tell me that was the "film speed." That made no sense and just confused me. Speed of what? How fast the film is supposed to be advanced? At that time, I didn't understand how to use manual exposure, so I didn't realize that was actually the ISO rating, and it meant the film's light sensitivity. So that's my question...why don't more people just call it the "ISO rating" instead of "film speed." It seems like it just makes people confused. For example, someone might think that if they use a 400 ISO film, it will automatically make the camera switch to a 1/400 shutter speed. That's not true at all. We know that on a camera with manual exposure control, you have to MANUALLY select the shutter speed and aperture settings to expose the film correctly. After all, depending on the lighting conditions, you might use a shutter speed of anything. In low lighting, the shutter speed might need to be 1/50, even with 200 ISO film. Could it have been that maybe people didn't understand manual exposure? There were a lot of cheap 35mm and 110 point and shoot cameras when I was a kid in the 80's and 90's. So maybe they just told people something generic like "use 200 or 400 speed film in daylight" because they assumed people just had a point and shoot camera with a fixed shutter speed? I don't know. I just don't get it. So why was the term "film speed" even used? Please answer only if you actually use film and are familiar with what I'm talking about. If you've only used digital cameras and don't know anything about film, please don't bother. I understand what ISO is. (Read the question...I said that I use completely manual exposure). ISO and "film speed" are the same. My question is, if they are the same, why don't more people use the more correct term "ISO rating." fhotoace...so far, you are the only one who seems to have actually read the question and given a good answer. My concern was that people are confusing "film speed" with the shutter speed. No matter what ISO film you use, the shutter speed may be different, depending on the lighting conditions. For example, I took pictures indoors with Ilford HP5 Plus film, which is 400 ISO. I din't want to use a flash. So I set the aperture to f/8 and did a 1 SECOND exposure. moreResolved Question: Film for Lomography Diana F+ Medium Format Camera?
I am buying the Lomography Diana F+ Medium Format camera for my boyfriend as a birthday present and want to buy some film to go with it. It uses all varieties of medium format 120 film. Are there any websites where film is less expensive than buying it in an actual store? I checked on Amazon, but they mostly sell 5-packs, and I just want a couple. Thanks! p.s. I only need one lense and that is for portraits. moreResolved Question: in the market for a medium format camera (questions...)?
I'm currently looking to purchase a medium format camera but have absolutely no idea what to look for. i'm a beginning photography student, and i don't know exactly what to search for when looking for a medium format camera. i am mainly looking at two brands, those being mamiya and hasselblad. mamiya, because i like the image quality that their pictures produce and it's an inexpensive alternative to hasselblad's. THAT said, i was looking at some specific models of mamiya's those being the mamiya rz67 and the mamiya c220, the hasselblad that i'm looking into is the hasselblad 501c (which is expensive because of it's zeiss lens). i've seen the mamiya rz67 in person and it's pretty huge compared to hasselblads cameras. i'm looking for a camera that i can take with me, place around my neck and shoot freely, so that's my concern with the mamiyas. ALSO, i know that these cameras don't have light meters built in, so how would i go about determining the proper exposures for my frames. One other question would be what are the shutter speeds like for a medium format camera? basically, i would like to know what medium format cameras you guys would recommend, and also some info on light meters, shutter speeds, and what type of lens to buy if i buy the body and the lens seperately. i hope this made sense. thanks! moreResolved Question: Can I use the lenses from my medium format Bronica camera on any new digital cameras?

You're budget will get you laughed out of the store though (they run Imperial $30,000.00 - about £20539.50 to be factual). Film is not really cheaper than Digital however. I shoot both and with processing, film costs and the need to scan (scanner) the slides (or film)... you could save a bundle in the interim by using digital. The problem is that you need a good wide angle lens to go with your digital camera in order to shoot landscapes. That alone may take up your budget. Don't skimp on lens quality... that is what makes the image - not the camera... crap in, crap out. Always start with the glass and work your way back to a good camera. Help would be much appreciated, Thank you. moreResolved Question: What's a good affordable medium format camera for street photography?
I've been shooting with a Holga but I think I am ready for a big-kid camera now. I mostly do street photography but I also have been getting really into night photography recently. Is there an affordable medium format camera out there that can handle both and isn't a piece of crap? Since my current camera is 95% plastic, pretty much anything would be a step up. Please advise, thanks :) I was thinking perhaps an old TLR? I don't really feel like I have the capabilities to use a bunch of different lenses yet, so a fixed-lens would be fine... I am still a beginner well I am already hauling around this monster Konica rangefinder too so size isn't a big issue. it's easier to print medium format in the darkroom so i prefer it... i really like the idea of taking surreptitious shots with a tlr, the more i think of it. i hate when people pose!! thanks for all the suggestions! Holy crap, a Mamiya 7?!?!?! I said affordable and I'm no heiress!!!! moreResolved Question: Should I buy a CANON 450d digital SLR camera NOW or after Xmas?
I am thinking about buying a CANON 450d digital SLR camera with the standard 18-35mm Lens. I need to know a few things: 1. Should I buy it NOW (£438 lowest price I've found in UK) OR wait till after Xmas (Sales)? 2. Would any Sale Price be likely to be significantly lower £100? or just £20-30? Maybe somone has experience of purchasing in yearly sales. 3. Will the Canon 450d be likely to be superseeded in next few months with a more powerful similar camera? Thus should I wait for a new model? Any news on the grapelines about new Canon models (especially maybe cameras with more than 12.2 Megapixels in the £500-700 range? I am a Graphic Designer and need to purchase the best camera I can in the £500-700 range that will give me the Highest Image Resolutions for High Quality PRINTED images for Brochures/Posters. I cant afford a Medium Format Professional Camera (20 Megapixels+) and just wonder if any new Canon/Other models are due out soon? Many, many thanks for any help!!! moreResolved Question: Used 160 speed film camera setting was 400 ?

The film type is 160 speed fugi and is a120 medium format roll--15 exposures. My camera is mamiya 645. I was using a flash with the camera. Is there any hope for getting good pictures from this roll?
